Hatfield Marine Science Day will return on April 12, 2025!

We hope to see you then for our annual science fair and open house featuring marine science programs and scientists based at Hatfield. The event is free, family-friendly and ideal for lifelong learners. Everyone is welcome!

THEME: Our Ocean, Our Future

DAY/TIME: Sat., April 13, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

EXHIBITS: Throughout the day, you are welcome to visit the 45 marine science exhibits from research programs based on the Hatfield campus. Researchers are on hand to share their work and answer questions. You'll also find more at:

  • The KIDS ZONE - a hands-on-tastic space for learning about marine science.
  • The R/V Kalipi, a 29' nearshore research vessel, will be onsite, and visitors are welcome to climb aboard.
  • The Hatfield Visitor Center will be open FREE of charge during this event.

FEATURED EVENTS

  • 11:30 a.m. - noon | Sounds of the Sea, Hatfield Visitor Center auditorium
  • 1-2 p.m. | Keynote Talk - Views from Above: How Drones Help Us Monitor the Health of Whales, Carmen Ford Phillips Auditorium in the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building.
  • 2:30 - 3  p.m. | Feeding time at the Visitor Center

BEHIND-THE-SCENE TOURS

  • 10:30 & 11:30 a.m.: Hatfield's Seawater System - 45 minutes, 15 people per tour
  • 11 a.m.: Yaquina Estuary Trail - 1 hour, there will be two groups simultaneously with 20 people per group
  • 10:30 & 11:45 a.m.: Vertical tsunami evacuation at the Gladys Valley Marine Studies Building - 45 minutes, 20 people per tour
  • 11 a.m.: Aquaculture Tour - 1 hour, 20 people
