Learning Together

Marine Science Day is the perfect place for people of all ages to explore interactive exhibits and learn about the marine science research taking place at Hatfield Marine Science Center.

Kid Zone

Are you looking for an area specializing in activities geared toward Marine Science Day’s younger visitors? Then check out the KID ZONE. Hosted by Oregon Sea Grant, the Kid Zone is in the Hatfield Education Wing and is a great place for children and their families to learn about ocean waves, big research ships, amazing marine animals, and more. Parents and educators are also invited to come to the Kid Zone to discover K-12 programs and resources available at Hatfield.

This year families will have the chance to:

  • Drive an underwater robot! We will have pre-assembled ROV (remote operated vehicles) ready to try out. Visitors are challenged to see how many magnetic objects they can get a robot can pick up.
  • Use microscopes to view fascinating coastal biofacts and then guess where or what they came from.
  • Engineer a model whale tag that can be used to successfully “tag a whale”
  • Take a break in the coloring station if you need some downtime.

Kid’s Rest and Reading Room

The Guin Library also has a quiet space for kids, where they can have a little downtime and rest. Marine science children's books will be available as well as puzzels and games.
